The Greenville Eastern North Carolina (ENC) Alliance has released an economic performance report that explores trends and facts in the Greenville-Pitt County MSA during 2024. This report contains dozens ofgraphs and charts with data analyzing economic insights in the Greenville-Pitt County MSA, peer markets, North Carolina, and the United States.
“Over the past several years, our organization has been diligent in exploring all aspects of the economy in order to analyze performance,” said Josh Lewis, CEcD, President and CEO of the Greenville ENC Alliance. “A critical component of our work is to share important economic facts and trends with our community, businesses, and leaders. A key aspect of this work is reporting how local economic performance compares to national and state trends, as well as with the peer communities that we identified in our 2023 strategic plan.”
The report covers various topics, including population, GDP trends, median household and per capita income, bank deposits, employment, cost-of-living analysis, housing analysis, real estate trends, tax revenue trends, retail spending, visitor spending, and total crime and poverty rate trends. In addition, it concludes with local economic development successes and national rankings where the Greenville-Pitt County MSA is recognized.
“We are happy to report steady economic growth in Greenville-Pitt County as households are earning more, bank deposits and wealth are accumulating, consumer and retail expenditures are increasing, and our share of population and job creation align with a growing state,” added Lewis. “This growth is driven by robust outputs in manufacturing, life sciences, healthcare, and education.”
When comparing the MSA to other peer communities in the southeast, Greenville-Pitt County proves to be a top-quartile performer across key economic indicators, especially when it comes to cost of living and housing.
“To achieve our shared economic goals, we must continue to focus on the enhancement of quality of life,” shared Lewis. “Community leaders should pursue and encourage the development of a portfolio of housing opportunities, invest in community amenities and vibrant downtowns, make needed improvements to key school facilities, and invest in infrastructure and industrial site development. These actions will be imperative to compete and support a promising economic future.”
