Greenville, NC has been named one of Livability’s Top 100 Best Places to Live in 2025. Livability.com unveiled its highly anticipated 2025 Top 100 Best Places to Live list, showcasing the nation’s most vibrant and livable small to mid-sized cities. Greenville’s vibrant local economy, thriving cultural scene, and strong sense of community were highlighted as factors for making the list.
“It has been a strategic goal of our organization to be recognized in various community ranking publications. Having Greenville listed among the best places in the country to live by a prominent firm like Livability, is a significant milestone,” said Josh Lewis, CEcD, President and CEO of the Greenville ENC Alliance. “The positive economic data for Greenville and Pitt County is progressively getting stronger while the area maintains an affordability edge over other cities. Livability deems this an extremely important component in their ranking methodology.”
In its 12th year of publication, Livability partnered with Applied Geographic Solutions (AGS), a demographic and marketing database, to analyze 2,000 cities and curate the Top 100 Best Places to Live in the U.S. based on nearly 100 data points and an algorithm that takes into account measures of a city’s economy, housing and cost of living, amenities, transportation, environment, safety, education, and health.
“Our ‘Top 100 Best Places to Live in the U.S.’ list is a data-driven collection of what we consider to be the best small to mid-sized places to live in. It’s the only list out there truly honing in on affordability, lauding the amazing, accessible cities across the country other than our large U.S. metros which often get more recognition,” says Amanda Ellis, Livability.com editor-in-chief. “As Americans face shifting economic conditions in a year wrought with inflation, evolving work dynamics, and a growing desire for a better quality of life, our ‘Top 100 Best Places to Live’ list celebrates the cities where Americans are creating dream careers, building families, launching businesses and leading meaningful lives.”
With an overall Quality of Life LivScore of 643, Greenville is one of seven North Carolina cities that made the list. Greenville ranks highest for environment, transportation, education, housing, and cost of living. Livability refers to Greenville as the cultural and educational hub of eastern North Carolina and highlights the growing community as a top destination for relocation.
“The community ranked highest in areas like environmental quality, housing cost, and education. These are core strengths that we all leverage to improve our performance in other areas of the economy,” shared Lewis. “Greenville and Pitt County should be proud of this achievement, and the reality is that we are just scratching the surface.”
