In a new report sponsored by Wells Fargo, North Carolina is ranked as the second best state in the nation for women-owned business. The data looks at economic clout and ranks the combined growth in the number of firms and employment and average shares in firms, employment, and revenue of women-owned businesses from 2019 to 2023.
According to the study, "North Carolina provides various services, including access to financing, training, and marketing support. The state shows a solid upward trend in the growth of firms. Its employment and revenue share rank it in the top 10 women-owned businesses, significantly contributing to North Carolina's economy."
New York claimed the top spot, followed by North Carolina, which leads the southeast region. It’s followed by Georgia, Florida, and California rounding out the top five.
This study is part of a series of demographic backgrounders from the inaugural 2023 Wells Fargo Impact of Women-Owned Businesses, shared ahead of the full report release in late November.
